Ya-Ya’s
The Ya-Ya’s are St. David’s women’s fellowship. Formed after the first Women’s Retreat in November 2002, they share food and fellowship while helping each other grow spiritually. The Ya-Ya’s meet on the 2nd Friday of each month. Activities include baby showers for members and their families, wrapping Christmas gifts for the Angel Tree, book discussions, family games, watching movies, or just sharing the joys and stresses of the past month.
Adult Education
Throughout the year, St. David’s offers book studies and media presentations for adult discussion. Previous subjects have included “Via Media” and “Saving Jesus” both multi-media presentations, and books such as"Take this Bread" by Sarah Miles, “The Gospel of Judas”,“Early Christian Traditions” by Rebecca Lyman, “Evolution and Christian Faith” by Joan Roughgarden, and “What's so Amazing about Grace” by Phil Yancey. At least two separate studies have offered a look at the Apocryphal books of the Bible and a comparison study of the Gospels. Programs are generally scheduled on Wednesday evenings, beginning at 7 pm. For more information on upcoming studies, or to suggest a topic, please use the contact form on our web page.
Guided Hikes
St. David’s offers guided hikes during the fall, winter and spring. Hikes are generally geared to all ages and are several miles in length. Hikes are lead by Jody Gebhardt, who has worked as a hiking guide for Elderhostel. Past hikes have included Hackberry, Wiregrass, and Jackass Canyons, Kaibab Gulch, Paria Movie set and Old Pariah, Cathedral Wash, and Buck Tank Draw. Usually, there is a hike at the North Rim in the summer. Watch the Announcements for the next hike.
Pancake Supper
Every year on Shrove Tuesday, the men of St. David’s cook up a feast of pancakes, bacon, ham and sausage as we celebrate the last night before Lent begins. Serving starts about 6:30 pm, the music well before, and everyone is invited to share in a meal.
Soup and a Movie
Each Wednesday during Lent, we share a simple meal of soup and bread and watch a thought provoking movie. In 2009, we watched “The Visitor,” “August Rush,” “The Great Debaters ,” “Arranged” and “The Hobart Shakespeareans.”
